Happy Valentines Day everyone!!! If you’re like me, you love the holiday regardless of your relationship status. My mom taught us to celebrate love on Valentine’s Day, and therefore cherish ALL the people you love. She always had little gifts for us and called my sister and I her Valentines.
If you haven’t already, I highly recommend taking a listen to the Breaking Beauty Podcast with Carlene Higgins and Jill Dunn. They dive deep into beauty trends, top talked about products, interview industry leaders, the works.
They recently had Jennifer Brodeaur, also known as JB Skin Guru, who just so happens to be the facialist for both Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey. So clearly, she knows a thing or two about skincare.
The ladies of Breaking Beauty asked Jennifer what her tips are for the everyday gal who has a big event to go to and I just HAD to share after I tested it out a few times. I did this routine on Saturday before going out with friends to celebrate my birthday and I’m happy to say, and I think my photos support, that it worked like a charm!
Jennifer recommends the following routine before any big event where you really want your skin to look and feel its absolute best!
Step 1: Double Cleanse
Double cleansing is the process of starting with an oil-based cleanser which removes oil-based impurities such as SPF and sebum. Rinse, then cleanse with a water-based cleanser which removed impurities such as dirt and sweat. Jennifer recommends rinsing with FREEZING cold water, to help tighten the pores and firm the skin.
Step 2: Apply Facial Oil
Here, just use your usual facial oil. I like rosehip seed oil, but have been known to use grapeseed oil, or a homemade blend of almond oil with some lavender and frankincense drops. Don’t use too much though, just a small amount will do.
Step 3: Massage with Ice Cube
With your oil applied to your skin, begin to massage it in with an ice cube. The ice cube gives you a cryotherapy effect. This increases circulation, fights inflammation, tightens the pores even more, firms the skin, and gives you a solid dose of lymphatic drainage due to the massaging.
Step 4: Spray with Chilled Green Tea
Before beginning this entire process, make yourself some green tea (a little extra for sipping too) and pour it into a spray bottle to keep in the refrigerator. Once you’re done with your ice cube, and your skin has fully absorbed the oil, give yourself a few good sprays. The antioxidants found in green tea literally do wonders for your skin!
Step 5: Moisturize
Here, you just use your usual moisturizer, and you’re good to begin with your primer and makeup application!!
I hope you find this routine as effective and relaxing as I do! It’s the perfect at home facial that will give you that youthful glow you want next time you’re dressing to impress.
